Saturday 22 June saw Dance Woking take over Jubilee Square celebrating 30 years of Dance Woking in Woking. Since its inception in 1994, Dance Woking has enjoyed regular funding support from Woking Borough Council, enabling the organisation to provide an annual programme of activities, using dance to help change lives providing opportunities to Watch, Perform and Take-part.
September 2023 Dance Woking’s funding ceased as Woking Borough Council’s Section 114 Status took effect, whereby the borough is only able to support statutory provision. Like many community based charities in Woking the organisation has been reviewing its future and details of the organistaions next steps will be shared in the coming weeks.
With funding support from Surrey Community Foundation, Dance Woking was delighted to be able to produce a fun and creative day where both the dance community and members of the pubic could take-part, watch and perform in dance.
The day featured two community dance platforms with performances from community based companies: Alexandra Dance Company, Dance Woking Dance group (supported by Freedom Leisure with funding support from Surrey Community Foundation and Woking Borough Council) who represented Woking Borough at the recent Active Surrey Youth Games; Amala Belly Dance, Bellytricks Belly Dance and BKD Performers.
