Dance Masterclass with Zoie Golding


Zoie Golding, Artistic director of Zoielogic will host an in person masterclass on 30th June at The University of Surrey.

With their mission ‘we challenge perceptions of dance‘ we are delighted to be able to welcome Zoie Golding, Artistic Director, Zoielogic Dance Theatre for a 90 minute masterclass.

Zoielogic Dance Theatre challenge perceptions of dance, who it is for, where and how it is shown. They don’t just make shows for you, they create unforgettable experiences with you .This workshop will offer a real insight into Artistic Director, Producer and Choreographer Zoie, who has has over 21 years of extensive experience in the events and dance sector across the UK and worldwide and her work. She specialises in bringing people together for exceptional and innovative dance experiences, reaching those least likely to take part in the arts and passionately committed to creating significant social change through dance.

Whether you are an organisation or an individual the membership scheme provides a platform for you to highlight what you do as well as professional development opportunities to support, sustain and inspire dancers, artists, teachers and makers. The programme runs annually and includes a variety of opportunities to network and be part of a thriving dance community, with access to Continuous Professional Development (CPD) throughout the year, discounts to classes, workshops and dance performances.

This is a rebranded directory and will feature dance school listings with more search options to make it easier for those wanting to find a dance school to do so. There is an annual fee to be listed, which will give access to exclusive offers and opportunities to network. Grant funding from Arts Council England’s Project Grants Scheme is supporting the Dance Surrey Directory. To encourage further sign-up we are offering a 10% discount on the annual 12 months membership. To enjoy this discount you will need to join by 31st May 2021. This is a 12 month rolling membership programme.

There are three membership levels, allocation is on a first come basis.

Monthly Breakfast Briefings – 45-minutes – two members from the dance-listed organisation can attend per briefing. Sign up required.

  • This programme has started and is very popular. In April we have heard from Bawren Tavaziva – sharing his experience of growing up a Zimbabwe township and coming to England for the first time and experiencing snow! And how he used his Africa influence as a stimulus for his work and signature movement. This was followed by a CPD where attendees learnt about Bawren’s practise. In May we heard from brand guru Rob Macpherson, his entry into the world of consultancy and his top tips and some tools on how to start thinking about your brand.

A 90 minute masterclass with Bawren Tavaziva.

Experience Bawren Tavaziva’s highly inventive choreography; an energetic, intricate and physically challenging synthesis of ballet, contemporary and African dance.

This workshop will offer a real insight into the way Artistic Director Bawren Tavaziva choreographs. Using themes or Tavaziva’s repertoire as a starting point Bawren will take participants through his warm up and then teach and share sequences of his choreography.

Be the first to join the NEW Dance Surrey Directory

Dance Woking is pleased to announce that we have received funding from Arts Council England’s Project grant fund to help us re-brand and re-launch our Dance Directory.

The NEW Dance Directory will also feature a listing for Creative Freelancers called Dance Surrey PRO and Organisations that support the Creative Industries with an emphasis on dance.  In order to make this a sustainable listing service there is a modest membership fee to join.

Dance Woking is Recruiting

Dance Woking is seeking new Trustees to join its Board. Are you interested in a new opportunity to lead and influence a dance charity? 

Trustee Application Pack 2021 

It’s an exciting time for Dance Woking as we develop and create a new strategic direction and we are looking for new trustees to support and challenge the organisation.   We are seeking candidates with experience in health, financial management, business and commercial, IT, legal and HR and particularly welcome candidates from a range of backgrounds to help to progress our aim to become a fully inclusive and diverse organisation.

Dance Woking, is looking for committed individuals who can bring their expertise to this vibrant and versatile dance development organisation. The Trustee role requires you to attend to four board meetings per year, provide strategic support and enthusiastic advocacy.

Meetings usually take place early evening and are currently online. Board members will be expected to offer time and expertise outside of board meetings as relevant to their area of specialism. Board members will be invited to Dance Woking events throughout the year, although it is not expected that board members attend all these events.

Board members will be asked to serve on the board of Trustees of Dance Woking for a minimum term of 3 years where possible.

Communication and Administration Coordinator

We are looking for a skilled and dynamic Communications and Administration Co-ordinator to join Dance Woking’s team for a fixed term of 6 months from April 2021 to September 2021.

This role includes providing administrative support as well as managing Dance Woking’s external communications, including website and social media channels. 3 month probation applies.

Deadline for applications: 5pm 31 March 2021. Remote Interviews: 7 April 2021

Spring is finally in the air and with the road map to opening and recovery shared by the Government we have lots of our own news at Dance Woking to share! Dance Woking successfully received an Arts Council England Projects Grant funded through the Big Lottery to help us deliver our first series of new initiatives. During February the team has been busy preparing for a range of new projects launching in March 2021. Through a series of short bitesized news updates we will share our latest news.

Supported & Associated Artists Dance Woking is providing a unique opportunity for up to ten dance professionals who either live or work in Surrey to become Supported Artists (5) and Associated Artists (5) of Dance Woking. Applications for both these programmes have been launched this week with a closing date to apply of 3rd March.  We strongly encourage applications from all areas of professional work in the dance sector to apply to be Supported or Associate artists.
