Encounters 1 week to go!

We have been getting ready for Encounters, taking place in Jubilee Square, Woking Town Centre next Saturday 22 June, a warm-up to this years Party in the Park, Dance Woking has been working with schools around Woking & Surrey; teaching a flash mob phrase; we are very excited and looking forward to once again performing in Jubilee Square.

Supporting Dance Woking this week has been Emily, experiencing the Tea Dance on Wednesday at HG Wells Conference & Events Centre. led by The Swingsters who will also be leading the Swing Dance on 6 July in the bandstand field; to helping with the carnival parade banners on Thursday, lots still to do!

Also supporting Dance Woking this week has been Maria Lima designing the banners & volunteers Maggie & Camila.

Urban Playground Team are back

Come and join Dance Woking for a two day Parkour workshop with the Urban Playground Team in May Half Term!

Zoo Humans Rotate group is a 2-day performance parkour workshop using a specially constructed structure led by The Urban Playground Team. On Wednesday 29 & Thursday 30 May, participants will work towards putting together a short performance piece to be performed alongside The Urban Playground Team at Party in the Park on Saturday 6 July in Woking Park.

Dates: 29th & 30th May 2019

Venue: The Kemp Room, H.G. Wells Conference & Events Centre, GU21 6HJ

Time: 12noon – 4pm

Activate Dance May Half Term for 8 – 11 year olds

Come and join Dance Woking in May Half Term to take part in a fun and exciting workshops to learn repertoire by Ceyda Tanc Dance! Wednesday will be led by dancers from Ceyda Tanc Dance, and Thursday’s rehearsal will be led by Dance Woking Artists.

Whose it for? Suitable for 8 – 11 years olds, no dance experience required

What will you learn? Some turkish folk dance led by professional dance company Ceyda Tanc Dance.

This is part of a larger project and will lead to a performance opportunity:

KUSAK is an exciting intergenerational performance challenging audience perception of dance and age; this new work explores ritualistic ceremonies from Turkish Folk culture.

Four choreographers present new work in Woking

Join Dance Woking on Tuesday 21 May to see four amazing choreographers present new work on London Studio Centre final year students, one of the country’s most prestigious performing arts colleges.  Former Scottish Ballet Director Ashley Page creates playful neo-classic dances to music by Britten, whileAndrew McNicoll draws on the Ravel’s lush Mirror for an intimate portrait of women. Ballet and contemporary dance maker Cameron McMillan pushes balletic lines into fresh classic form and Mikaela Polley and percussionist Martin Pyne collaborate to bring brand new ballet and music together.

Rotate Parkour starts Thursday 25 April – places available

Dance Woking is hosting weekly parkour sessions in Woking, Addlestone and Waverley.

The sessions will be run in a safe and supportive environment, allowing progression of movement skills including running, jumping, vaulting, crawling, balancing, swinging, diving and rolling.

About Momentum Parkour: Momentum are based in Leatherhead and are experienced in teaching young people the fundamentals and skills of parkour.
